The Journey

On June 12, 2007, Christopher Bolton and Sam Babe will leave Oceanside, California and race their bicycles for 24 hours every day, across the 5,000 kilometre expanse of the United States, arriving in Atlantic City, New Jersey about seven days later.

Participating in the Race Across AMerica (RAAM), Christopher and Sam aim to raise funds for the Sick Kids Foundation as well as awareness of the world-class care that is provided to the children of Ontario, Canada and countless other countries, by Toronto’s Hospital for Sick Children

Along the way, they will be driven by their ‘Why’, the thing they can never lose sight of en route that drives them to keep going: Christopher lost his brother Ricky to a pediatric form of cancer called Acute Lymphocytic Leukemia (ALL) when Ricky was 3 years old; Sam is a survivor of ALL, diagnosed at age 24, who overcame the disease through treatment developed at Sick Kids in the decades since Ricky was a Sick Kids patient.

Riding in two-hour relay shifts and calling themselves Team S.K.R.A.A.M (Sick Kids RAAM), these two men will also take inspiration from the stories told to them by survivors of ALL and other devastating childhood diseases, and by those who are currently under the care of Sick Kids Hospital or who have benefited from the care and expertise of this world-renowned health care and medical research facility.

Christopher, a successful actor, writer and television producer who is currently starring in the hugely popular Showcase television comedy, Rent-A-Goalie, and Sam, a Toronto lawyer at Aird & Berlis LLP, met when they participated in the 2006 Tour For Kids, a four-day, 800 kilometre charitable bike ride that raises funds for camps for children with cancer. It was during that experience that these two realized there was even more they could do to help children who suffer from terrible diseases of all kinds, including cancer.

Training is going well...

I have stepped up my telekinesis training, so I should be in peak condition to give you guys all the mental support you need come June 12.

This is an inspired initiative, and I am just so completely excited and happy for all involved.

Good luck to you and your pedal partners.
